We have been super busy here in Kindergarten since we’ve gotten back from vacation!
First, we are becoming Poet’s! This is a wonderful way for the children to express some personal feelings, thoughts and emotions. We have spent a great deal of time practicing and writing poems together – stop by and check out one we published for the hallway about Mother Earth. They are really having fun with this and they look forward to writing every day! The poetry we are listening to, speaking and writing is also helping with our reading fluency. I am so proud of the hard work everyone is doing here in school!
Secondly, our poem, Mother Earth was inspired by our knowledge of the Earth and the many things we now know about our planet. Please take some time and ask your child what they have learned about the Earth.
In math, we have begun talking about positional words and where things are in relation to one another. “Quiz” your child when you are driving in the car, sitting at home or playing outside…. The ball is under the table? The door is next to you. Please stand in front of the sink. (behind, on top, beside and between are other positional words). Repetition and reinforcement will help them grasp these difficult terms.
I hope everyone is enjoying the spring and the wonderful weather we have been seeing!
